Head: Dr. Benjamin Gilfedder
The Limnologic Research Station is focused on the coupling between abiotic and biotic processes with hydrology in natural and anthropogenic aquatic and semiaquatic environments. We primarily study groundwater-surface water interactions and how water fluxes are coupled with biogeochemical cycling of carbon, nitrogen, iron, sulphur and trace elements (e.g. iodine and bromine) in streams, rivers, lakes and the coastal zone. The Limnologic Research Station is part of the Department of Hydrology, member of the BayCEER (Bayreuth Centre of Ecology and Environmental Research), and is in close collaboration with other departments related to geosciences, biology and environmental chemistry
